| RECYCLING
IN FAKENHAM |
Recycling our waste and used goods is
now thankfully becoming the norm rather than some
kind of quirky practice. However,
sometimes it's still a bit difficult to follow good
recycling policies - especially if you don't know
where to go or how to do it.
HOME COLLECTIONS
Most households in the area are provided with waste
collection via the council's 'Twin Bin' scheme. A
240 litre grey bin is used for general rubbish, suitable
only for landfill. A green bin is provided for recycling
purposes and can take the following (placed loose
in the bin and not in bags) ...
-
Food and drink cans (aluminium and
steel)
-
Aerosols (empty)
-
Plastic bottles (drinks, bleach,
shampoo bottles etc)
-
Paper (not shredded) and cardboard
Remember that you should not squash the cans or bottles,
just rinse them out and remove bottle caps, placing
them separately in the bin. Foil containers cannot be
recycled, neither can wraps, polystyrene, waxed milk/fruit
juice cartons, plastic food trays, yoghurt pots, margarine
tubs or plastic bags.
The council also offers optional recycling
for garden waste via a 'Brown Bin' scheme. A 240 litre
bin is provided at no cost, with the annual collection
fee currently at £30.00. You can fill your brown
bin with...
-
Grass cuttings & hedge clippings
-
Weeds & leaves
-
Flowers, plants & vegetable
tops
-
Prunings, bark, twigs & small
branches
-
Christmas trees

COMPUTE UK, HOLT ROAD, FAKENHAM
This
established local PC retailer & repairer has run
popular computer fairs around the region for years.
They have recently launched a WEEE-compliant computer
equipment and peripheral recycling scheme for individuals
and companies across East Anglia.

home or business can recycle your unwanted computer

TESCO, OAK STREET, FAKENHAM
Tesco are introducing a scheme to cut down on waste
by awarding Clubcard points to customers not using new
plastic carrier bags when they do their shopping. Shoppers
can alternatively use their own bags, or cardboard boxes
available in store.
Each year, Tesco hands out 4 billion biodegradeable
plastic bags. It already recycles 150 million tonnes
of plastic bags and cardboard boxes nationally every
year, but aims to further increase its recycling efforts.
