ALL CHANGE ON THE BUSES - Monday, September 24, 2007

Bus company, First Eastern Counties, will be withdrawing its No.56 service from Norwich to Fakenham, on 28th October. The company says that the service isn't financially viable without subsidy.

The Norwich to Fakenham bus, running every 2 hours but on a 'more direct route', will be taken over by Norfolk Green buses from 29th, reportedly via a 22-month Norfolk County Council subsidy worth nearly £98,000

FAKENHAM SCOPE - Wednesday, September 05, 2007

The SCOPE charity shop in Millers Walk, Fakenham, which raises money to help people with Cerebral Palsy, is looking for volunteers. There are various jobs available within the shop, including sorting / preparing stock for sale and work on the till (full training is given and it's probably the most rewarding job for those who like meeting people).

They're also constantly on the lookout for goods to sell - especially donations of clothes and bric-a-brac (but not electrical goods).

CRANMER CUTS CONFIRMED - Wednesday, July 25, 2007
The board of Norfolk Primary Care Trust has confirmed their decision, announced last week, to close 11 of the 13 NHS beds at Cranmer House - the respite care unit in Fakenham owned and run by Norfolk County Council. (full story)

CRANMER HOUSE CUTS - Thursday, July 19, 2007

Announcements have now been made regarding the Primary Care Trust cutbacks to local health services. Cranmer House in Fakenham is to remain open as a rehabilitation unit, but with only two NHS beds.

Changes are to be put to a special PCT board meeting for approval next week and are expected to take place over the coming year.

PLANS FOR THE WENSUM - Friday, July 13, 2007

The Environment Agency is considering plans to alter the river Wensum at the point where it flows through the town. The idea (one of six proposals) is to change it from being a wide slow-moving river to being a narrower, faster-moving one. The reason being to help reduce the local flood risk. The plan includes the removal of the sluice gate upstream of the Mill at Fakenham.

The EA wish to extend the deadline for consultation to make sure all interested parties have a say in the plan. Groups with an interest in the area are invited to contact the Environment Agency on 0870 8506560

TOWN COUNCIL BACKING - Friday, July 06, 2007

Fakenham Town Council have decided to support the results of the recent referendum on the issues of Cranmer House and a travellers' site. They will now add their backing to the poll results, which were in favour of keeping Cranmer House open and against the siting of a travellers' site in the town.

Q1: “Do you agree that a site for temporary stays for gipsies/travellers should be sited in the Fakenham area?” 
RESULT: 1472 No, 82 Yes, 11 Spoilt papers

Q2: “Do you agree with the proposed closure of palliative care beds and other services offered at Cranmer House?"
RESULT: 1508 No, 24 Yes, 33 Spoilt papers

Q3: “Would you like Cranmer House to remain open giving the care as it does at present?”
RESULT: 1516 Yes, 42 No, 7 Spoilt papers

The turnout was 25.4% of the electorate, at 1565 votes.
