| ADULT EDUCATION CUTS? - Wednesday, December 13, 2006 The College of West Anglia has indicated that the Fakenham Learning Centre could be closed after a review of regional outreach centres. A government policy which has changed the kinds of courses provided has led to a less popular curriculum and a drop in student numbers. The Centre, which has 12 full and part time administrators and nearly 300 enrolled students, may close next summer, enabling students to complete their current courses. A petition against the possible closure has been drawn up and concerned members of the public may sign this at the Fakenham Learning Centre in Norwich Street. (full story) |

| RAINBOW TO CLOSE - Monday, November 13, 2006 The Co-op Rainbow supermarket in Holt Road, Fakenham, will close its doors on 25th November, despite a recent promise by the company to expand and improve facilities. The news was a blow to the shop's 70 staff, who now face a difficult Christmas with the prospect of no job. A proposed Lidl store may replace Rainbow at the site, but workers are not guaranteed placements and building work on the new store could take six months. The Rainbow Pharmacy, inside the supermarket, currently serves many people in the vicinity and elderly residents are likely to feel the effects of its closure most. [UPDATE: The Pharmacy will remain open, according to signs inside the shop.] (full story) |
